About 'Carrow McClendon

Kayleigh is a bright, fun, beautiful, 7 year old, little girl that was diagnosed with DIPG on May 11, 2016. This site is to share her journey and prayer requests.

July 19, 2016 – 5:10 am

We are still in the Miami Children’s ER. Kayleigh has had a CT scan and series of X-rays. Preliminary reports show the shunt is in place and working. It also shows the ventricles are beginning to return to normal size – thank you Jesus on all counts!!!

We are still waiting to talk to one of her neurosurgeons and will then be put in a room. We still are not sure what this was but we do know that God has answered our prayers again. How blessed we are to be protected by our Savior! Thank you for praying. No mater the time someone always answers my call for prayer.

Until later…

We need you again prayer warriors. Kayleigh has had a mild headache on and off today. I initially attributed it to us weaning the steroids and I’m sure that is a possibility; however, a little over an our ago Kayleigh began vomiting. She has had 2 episodes so far and her head is still hurting.

We called her neurosurgeons office over 45 minutes ago but they still have not called back. I called to check with them again and they tell me they have not been able to even get ahold of any of the doctors yet. We need for them to call us back so we can figure out what to do for Kayleigh.

Please pray for the vomiting and headache to stop.
Pray for the doctor to return our call quickly and that he would have wisdom for what we need to do.
Pray that for rest and peace for all of us. We are so very tired, and of course, concerned.

I know this is Satan trying to steal our joy from the beautiful miracle that is Kayleigh and all of the amazing things God has done. But Satan has no power here – we claim the matchless name of Jesus and where he stands Satan must flee. So get away from us Satan, get away from our daughter. You have no power here. We do not doubt that God is in control. We will not panic because that would mean we don’t trust God to take care of things – we know He will. We will not be shaken because we are held fast by the most high God – maker of heaven and earth. Whom shall we fear? We ask tonight that you all help fortify us with your prayers.

Psalm 18:30
God’s way is perfect. All the Lord’s promises prove true. He is a shield for all who look to him for protection.

Isaiah 41:13
For I hold you by your right hand— I, the Lord your God. And I say to you, ‘Don’t be afraid. I am here to help you.

Psalm 27:1
The Lord is my light and my salvation— so why should I be afraid? The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble?

I’m back! Tim was so good to write for me last night. Didn’t he do a great job? I’ve been trying to get him to do that for a little while now. He doesn’t often do the talking. He’s usually content to let me jabber away while he’s busy being my steady rock. That just makes his word all the more precious to me.

Tonight I have spent the past few hours trying to catch up on all the amazing comments that have been left here on Kayleigh’s page. Over the past few days I’ve made time to update you all but not had time to really read the responses. As I sit here tonight, I am in awe. So many people covering our precious girl and the rest of our family in prayer. Who are we to be carried by so many? Truly, there is nothing special about us. We are as ordinary as ordinary comes. We love Jesus, but we still mess up – regularly. Our shortcomings are many, and yet God has chosen us for this path. That just tells me that God really does use anyone. Don’t try to wait to “clean yourself up” go to God now, just the way you are. I promise, God can handle cleaning you up and using you just the way you are.

Tonight I am so thankful for the thousands of you that have stopped and prayed. You have stormed heaven on our behalf and God has graciously granted our requests. Our spunky little spitfire is out of the hospital. Please be to God! Brain surgery Friday morning, walking around, going out to dinner in Miami Beach Sunday evening. Had you told me that was the plan this past Wednesday when I sat there watching her, unable to wake up, unable to speak, unresponsive – I would have thought you were crazy. And yet here I sit, typing this message with Kayleigh sleeping peacefully in the bed next to me. The words running through my head are these… “amazingly abundant, beyond whatever I could possibly imagine”.

We are going to be hanging out here in the Miami area for them next few days. Sightseeing and taking it easy. Kayleigh has a follow up appointment with her neurosurgeon Wednesday and we hope to fly home after that. Please continue to pray for God’s healing mercy to continue to bless Kayleigh. Pray also for the safety for all of us as we are away from each other.

Until tomorrow,
‘Carrow 💜

Ephesians 3:20
Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.

This is what a miracle looks like… Thank you Jesus!

July 16th Update

Late night greetings from Mr. Whiskers (a nickname I picked up from a local in Cozumel). Thankful does not even begin to cover it ..the last couple days have certainly been a roller coaster for our sweet Kayleigh , and ‘Carrow and I ,but today has certainly been a day to rest, recover ,and reflect on what God has done with the path that only He could clear for us.
1. The timing of the cruise ship nurse to make sure that Kayleigh left that cruise ship in the condition she was in before another day at sea.
2. A “nascar” type ambulance ride from the cruise ship to the Hospiten in Jamaica to have scans done and help identify what brought on Kayleigh’s symptoms so quickly.
3. A private hospital in Jamaica that seemed sketch and scary at first but proved to help identify what needed to be done and help Kayleigh get back in the right direction .
4. Groups of local friends along with Disney , Children’s Hospital in Miami, all working together in the early morning hours to make sure Kayleigh didn’t have to have surgery in Jamaica by lining up A skilled flight/medical evac team that came in and put Kayleigh on a plane to Miami.
5. An incredible neuro and medical staff in Miami while talking to our St. Jude team to confirm what we knew needed to happen in Jamaica and perform a procedure to help Kayleigh feel better within hours of completion.
6. Kayleigh has being able to cut up with all her doctors , nurses , and everyone she has come in contact with today. She has made them smile , laugh because she is back to her sassy self and feeling pretty good . Grace and Cole safely made it back to Orlando after finishing the cruise with Bess and Aunt Kay and then flew back to Bham to meet up with my parents and my sister and Brother-in-law.
7. And last but not least we have had Long time friends and friends of friends stop by even in Miami to bring us food , visit , and offer anything and everything.

We are blessed to have each and every one of you following Kayleigh’s journey while praying and supporting her and us each and every day. God has continued to grant us peace, show all of us favor, and point us to the correct path.

4 Show me the right path, O Lord;

point out the road for me to follow.

5 Lead me by your truth and teach me,

for you are the God who saves me.

All day long I put my hope in you.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow! Our precious girl is snoozing soundly. She still has discomfort at both incision sites but outer than that she is doing fantastic! They are controlling her pain with only Tylenol and Motrin and it is working. We are still in the pediatric ICU tonight but I am thankful for that. Tomorrow she will move to a regular room and start weaning off the massive steroid dose. Please pray with us that she is able to tolerate lower steroids without side effects.

Also pray that we all will be able to rest tonight. We are all exhausted! It has been a very long few days.

We love you all – until tomorrow,
